I found it hard to understand why, with the same information from me, some owners sailed through while others struggled or even quit. Nothing makes a trainer feel disheartened like a client who gives up or stops trying. It’s as stressful for us trainers as it is for the client.
Determined to solve this dilemma, I started keeping track of each dog and owner that came through our school and their results. What I found was both ground- breaking and obvious. The problem wasn’t a naughty dog. It wasn’t a lazy owner, either. It was how their personalities interacted. Just like human relationships! From the get-go, some relationships are a love-match and others are a train-wreck. That is to say, personalities either blend well together naturally or they naturally clash.
Now that we at Dairydell have the tools to determine owner and dog personalities from the beginning, we can share both forecasts for the challenges that might be expected ahead and more importantly, how you can navigate around these potential challenges and not be surprised or discouraged by them.
