Maddie's Mountain

A Private Dog Park in Petaluma. Room to Run!

German shepherd in poolDairydell is now accepting membership applications for its newest addition, a private membership dog park called “Maddie’s Mountain. It will be open Spring through Fall each year (weather permitting). As a special incentive, the first 100 new members will have their initial membership fee waived.

dogs tug of warAt Maddie’s Mountain, your dog will enjoy off-leash play in wide-open spaces with pre-screened playmates, fresh air and the beauty of the countryside. Because there are four play yards, you can choose which fenced area your dog enjoys most that day. One of these is a play yard just for little dogs so that they can enjoy their own tiny fun! Having a private membership means your dog can enjoy off-leash play without many of the difficulties presented at public access dog parks. As a member, you and your dog can have unlimited use of the park 6 days a week from 9am – Sunset during operational months. (Please note that gates close at 8pm and the park will be closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.)

Rules to Play By

Membership to Maddie’s Mountain applies to all dogs in one household that meet our requirements for health and temperament and lets you use the dog park as often as you like during normal hours of operation. These rules are enforced for safety reasons so that you and your dog can enjoy the benefits of a private dog park.

  • Sorry, no intact males or bully breeds accepted at this time.
  • The member must always be present to supervise his dog(s). Dogs need to be under your visual contact and voice control at all times.
  • You are responsible for any injury or damage caused by your dog. If your dog inflicts injury to another dog or dog owner, please give your name and phone number to the other dog owner before leaving.
  • If necessary, members may file a formal, written complaint about another member or dog.  Formal complaints must be in writing and given to the Dairydell office.
  • Dairydell reserves the right to cancel dog park membership if it becomes necessary, or if a formal (written) complaint about a member or their dog is filed with the office by more than one person.
  • No inhumane treatment of dogs is allowed. This means no kicking, punching, hitting or poking with objects, slapping the face or head.
  • Dogs or children are not allowed to be left unattended in vehicles, regardless of the temperature.
  • Each adult may have only 2 member dogs at a time in the dog park. All dogs using the park must be registered with Dairydell and proof of vaccinations need to be on file.
  • Female dogs in season or puppies under 4 months old are not allowed.
  • DOGS MUST BE WALKED ON LEASH to/from play yards. Dogs can be safely off leash in the play yards only.
  • We suggest NO COLLARS be worn in the dog park. The safest collar for your dog to wear in a dog park is a break-away collar. Choke chains, pich or prgon collars are advised for walking your dog to / from the play yards, but are NOT allowed on the dog in the play yards. These collars can be very dangerous, as as dogs can get tangled, injured or choked.  Electronic collars are not allowed, unless approved by Dairydell.
  • NO RUNNING in the play yards for safety reasons – except the dogs, of course! Although the play yards are maintained, they are in a natural setting and the surface is uneven and contains dips and holes. Owners enter at their own risk.
  • Members must wear shoes at all times in the dog park.
  • Non-member visitors or dogs are not allowed.
  • For safety reasons, children under 12 are NOT ALLOWED at the dog park.
  • Be polite and clean up after your dog. Poop scoopers and receptacles are conveniently located throughout the dog park.
  • If your dog is annoying or aggressive to another dog or to its owner, you must take immediate action. This may mean moving your dog to another play yard, issuing a time-out for your dog, or even leaving the dog park.
  • Excessive barking can upset other dogs and change the energy in a playgroup.  Please try to control your dog’s barking whenever possible.
  • Throwing toys or tennis balls can create competition, jealousy and fights between dogs.  If you see this reaction, please refrain from this activity and let the dogs play amongst themselves.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING on the Dairydell property.
  • NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES brought onto the Dairydell property without management approval.
  • NO DOG TREATS OR FOOD in the play yards.  Treats or food can create jealousy and aggression between dogs.  Instead, take a seat in the isle way, watch your dog play and enjoy your latte!
  • The play yards are open on rainy days during operational months; however, please note that our adobe clay turns to “glue” when wet.  Use at your own inconvenience.
  • Lastly, have fun!

ABOUT BOARDING:  the Downside of a Good Time

(Please Read The Following and Sign)

Your dog will have a blast at Dairydell – meeting new friends, experiencing new things, and learning all kinds of new stuff if he’s in training. All that fun and excitement, however, can come with a few downside risks:

Tiredness: With everything so new and exciting, your dog won’t sleep as much as he does at home – especially during the day. By the time he comes home, your pooch might be pooped – sleepy and lazy for several days while he catches up on his zzzz’s. Do not be alarmed. After several days, his energy should be back to normal.

Bumps, Bruises and Boo Boo’s: It’s a play yard out there, and dog play is a contact sport! Most dogs spend their days at Dairydell running, jumping and wrestling and – like on a school play yard – stuff can happen. Even under supervision and the best of circumstances, injuries can occur. Most will be minor, but occasionally some will be more significant – even requiring veterinary attention. Running in our huge, sand arenas can also dry and crack pads. In other words, bumps, nicks and boo-boos are not uncommon in an active boarding environment, but most are proof that your dog had a really great time!

Eye Irritation: When city dogs come to stay with us, sometimes our farm air makes their eyes water! Our grasses, cows, horses, sheep and dust from dog-play on the sand – all contribute to occasional eye allergies. If you notice white-ish discharge in your dog’s eyes after coming home, just give us a call. We’ll tell you how to clear your pup up pronto!

Risk of Bloat or Torsion: The causes of life-threatening bloat (stomach filling with air) or torsion (twisted stomach) are not clearly understood, and they can happen anytime, anywhere – at home or away. Careful monitoring during playtime is the best way to intercept and address these rare but serious conditions. Your dog will be overseen by our staff between 7am and 9pm, but please note that dogs are not monitored overnight.

Viruses: COLDS HAPPEN. Like kids at a preschool, dogs share everything while boarding – including colds and assorted viruses. Luckily, there are vaccinations to help protect against the worst kinds of cold-causing bacteria, but your vaccines will NOT protect against the many viruses that also cause sniffles and coughs. For older dogs as well as the very young or those with other health conditions, risks from upper respiratory disease can be greater.  At Dairydell, we require that ALL dogs staying with us be current in both bordetella and parainfluenza vaccinations, so that we can maintain the highest protection level and the lowest possible odds of a bordetella or parainfluenza incident. Most other dog colds and even some skin conditions, however, are caused by viruses with no known vaccines to prevent them. Our best preventive at Dairydell is keeping dogs clean, warm, rested and well-fed. If your dog does come down with a cold or skin condition, either while here or after coming home, odds are it’s minor and will quickly pass. If your dog is old, young or otherwise compromised, however, vet attention may be advised.
